Work experience
We offer short placements to help recent students consolidate their training and make contacts in the industry.
"I'm so grateful for all the amazing jobs you have have been giving me and helping me with my career. I really appreciate your help." Katie Gulley, student, 2010
"My advice to all aspiring artists is to focus on what you want, work hard, practice, practice and keeping practicing. You never stop learning." Virginia Holmes, former student and make-up designer of Slumdog Millionaire
We place students across all areas of make-up and hair work. Food and travel expenses are nearly always covered, as well as any make-up costs.
TV, Film and Theatre
We offer a wide range of opportunities, from short placements 'shadowing' a make-up artist on a feature film or television drama, to being the sole make-up artist on a short film being made for entry into a film festival. Occasionally foreign travel is involved
In theatre, some work experience is offered during the course but there are usually further opportunities to work on productions afterwards as well. In all cases, students are carefully matched to appropriate work experience, depending on their individual strengths.
Fashion
Each year Greasepaint gets involved in a number of fashion shows. These include high profile events like Graduate Fashion Week, Alternative Fashion Week and Top Model UK. Other shows are charity events, and often attract media coverage.
We also offer placements on pop promos, photographic shoots, films and commercials.
Example placements
Recent hands-on work experience placements with experienced make-up designers (often through our tutors' recommendation) include the feature films Anna Karenina, Jack the Giant Killer, X Men: First Class and Hunky Dory, and for TV, Henry V, My Family, Holby City, Relic, Hotel Trubble ....
For many years we have placed students for work experience on short films, in collaboration with the National Film & Television school, the London Film School, The University of the Creative Arts, Bournemouth University, and more.
Numerous fashion shows include 2010 UK Top Model (in which our fashion tutor Christine Vidler led a team of 20 former students) and Alternative Fashion Week.
Paid work for recent graduates includes airbrush work for Sainsbury's and Pepsi. In both cases, the assistants were led by make-up designer and airbrush specialist Jane Maier.
