People

Greasepaint is a friendly and exciting place for students to learn about this industry. These are the people that look after the business.

The Principal

Julia Cruttenden has been teaching aspiring make-up artists since the early 1970s and started Greasepaint in 1979. Her first six-week course ran with just five students (including one from Iceland and another from Brazil). Over the next 10 years, and with several former students getting into the BBC every year, her reputation grew. She was unique in only employing working make-up artists as tutors, and this has continued to be one of Greasepaint's greatest strengths. Greasepaint moved to its current premises in Northfield Avenue in 1989. Her daughter Hannah now manages Greasepaint with her.

The Manager

Hannah Cruttenden has been working at Greasepaint since 2002. Before that she was a journalist, working for the BBC in radio and television news and documentaries. Together with Julia, she now runs Greasepaint, with a particular focus on the Agency and work experience for former students (she always says she gets to know the students much better during phone calls after they have left!). She lives in Ealing with her family.

The Agency Co-ordinator

Jo Lumley has worked at Greasepaint for the last five years. She works mainly on the agency - if there's a big fashion show or team event, she'll be busy putting the team together. Jo also helps manage make-up and hair supplies at Greasepaint.

Other staff

We have a friendly team of other part-time helpers in the office - at least some of their time is spent booking and liaising with the many models who come in. These include Kate Barber, Veronica Kinsella and our accountant Tracy Ansell.
